Killing unicorns...

I am angry today, so I have decided to kill some Brexit unicorns.

First unicorn.

The Withdrawal Agreement negotiations are over. They will not be reopened, not even for the Queen of Sheba. So, the posturing from both the Left and the Right about getting a better deal is a waste of time and a meaningless distraction.

Second unicorn.

No deal means no deal. It does not mean we carry on as if the referendum never happened. It means economic and social devastation. Having reneged on our obligations, we will struggle to make any deals with anyone, let alone ones that favour the UK.

Third unicorn.

Freedom of Movement is not an issue that needs solving. We benefit economically and socially from the human beings that have chosen to move to the UK, from the European Union and the rest of the world. Scapegoating immigration to excuse the result of domestic government policies is short term thinking and will not end well.

Fourth unicorn.

We won’t win by repeating the mistakes of 2016. We won’t win by emulating a campaign of lies. We need to offer something better, assertively and positively. Give people something to vote for rather than against.

Fifth unicorn.

“Remain and reform” is the wrong slogan. We need to remain and reform THE UK. Staying in the EU is only the beginning, but we need to be honest about how we have got to this point and every single one of us has to work towards eradicating the causes of Brexit.

Sixth unicorn.

There is no such thing as a “managed no deal”. Enough with the meaningless jargon. No one is buying that codswallop anymore. No deal means there is nothing to manage, apart from staying alive, if you need medicine to do that.

Seventh unicorn.

There is now a safety barrier between us and the cliff edge — unilateral revocation of Article 50. So, the only way we can fall off that cliff, is if there is a decision to circumvent the safety barrier.

Repeat after me: No Deal would be a CHOICE, not an accident.🔷
