2019, the beginnings of ends.

Looking back at 2018, a year with many ups and some downs, and now 2019, a year of many beginnings.

In March 2018, the citizen’s rights part of the Withdrawal Agreement was finalised. Though not optimal, especially for our friends British in the EU27 who will lose onward movement, for the first time since the referendum EU citizens in the UK had some form of certainty.

Towards the end of 2018, the threat of a No-Deal Brexit was growing though. The citizen’s rights certainty provided by the Withdrawal Agreement slipping away slowly. It was replaced by ‘unilateral promises’ of fewer rights with lesser future protection.

2019 will be a year of beginnings. The beginnings of ends.

2019 will see the official roll-out of the Settled Status. The beginning of the process to bring 3.6 million EU citizens under the full control of the Home Office and away from the protection of the European Union.

2019, with the roll-out of the Settled Status, will be the beginning of a process that will open up 3.6 million EU citizens to the Hostile Environment by 2021.

In 2018, the Windrush scandal showed us with all brutality the consequences of the Home Office’s Hostile Environment when getting it wrong.

2019 will also mark the beginning of the end of Freedom of Movement with all its benefits and protections. Not just for 3.6 million EU citizens living in the UK but for all 65 million British citizens.

One thing is for sure though, we will not give up the fight. 2019 might be a sad year in many ways but we have gathered great political support across all parties and we are confident that we will make a difference.

2019 will see our judicial review of the immigration exemption in the Data Protection Act. A case that will help not only EU citizens but every migrant to access data the Home Office is holding on them.

In 2019, we will continue fighting. And you can help us to #RescueOurRights right now by supporting us.

May 2019 be a happy year for all of us and everyone who supports us in our vital work.🔷
