In 2019, the3million will keep fighting for citizens’ rights and outreach to the most vulnerable EU citizens so they too can get documented.
A Happy New Year to you and your loved ones, from Scotland where I have travelled to attend a wedding.
The First Minister Nicola Sturgeon certainly knows how to make EU citizens feel welcome here. See her New Year wish, with a particular emphasis on highlighting our contribution to the Scottish Society:
The same is true of Sadiq Khan, the London Mayor, with this short interview ahead of the fireworks, with warm words for the 1 million EU citizens living in London:
My life irrevocably changed in June 2016 when the British and Commonwealth population (but not us, EU citizens living in the UK) voted to leave the European Union.
Following that seminal public event on 11 July 2016 in Bristol with French Sénateur Olivier Cadic, the cause to protect the lives of the 3 million EU citizens in the UK chose me, as if everything I ever learnt or done up to then destined me to take on the role of building the necessary counter-power to give EU citizens in the UK a voice, and it changed my life.
Today, I stand proud. the3million is now the central organisation representing EU citizens in the UK, and alongside our sister organisation British in Europe, I am in awe of everyone who has got involved in fighting for our rights and giving all of us a better future in these dark times of uncertainty and populism.
In 2019, the3million will continue with even more intensity. We will keep making a case for #citizensrights to the British Government and attempt to stop their Windrush-inspired ‘settled status’ policies which will endanger the lives of 100,000s of EU citizens for generations to come.
Most importantly, we will also form partnerships with other NGOs to effectively outreach to the most vulnerable EU citizens so they can get documented and not fall victim to Theresa May’s hostile environment.
If you can donate, please do.
Sadly,I have no doubt this year will be another rollercoaster ride for #the5million EU citizens in the UK and British in Europe, but I do know everyone at the3million will fight tirelessly for our rights in 2019, and we will make sure the most vulnerable will get the help and support they will need.
Wishing you and your loved ones good health, peace and prosperity in 2019.🔷
