If only Leave voters could read and understand this wholly sovereign opinion article...

Why am I a Remainer Now?

Brexit was sold to voters on the premise that Britain will be sovereign. So, after some research, I can confirm that I was lied to for these reason:

Sovereignty

To understand ‘sovereignty’ we need to be clear about which type we are talking about? Personal or political sovereignty? I will explain both.

Personal Sovereignty

Personal sovereignty is related to freedom, capacity, and choice. I need options and to be able to choose freely from those options so that I can have control over my fate. But is this really possible? Well, of course not! The State can coerce me into behaving a certain away, e.g. laws that limit what I can and can’t do (I cannot go round murdering people without expecting to be punished for it).

Does the EU restrict my freedom? Of course not! The EU (and that’s the UK, by the way) gives me Freedom of Movement. Remember, I said that I need freedom to be sovereign? Well, this is one of the freedoms I get from the EU. My food is of the highest standards in the world, I can travel to 27 countries to find a job. And if I don’t find a job within 3 months, EU law says I have to return to my country. So, every EU member has control over their immigration!

I have choices because I can study abroad while at university. Once we leave the EU, that choice will go. So, Brexit is limiting my sovereignty!

Political Sovereignty

What about political sovereignty? No nation or government is complete free. Back in the times of colonialism they went round invading and raping other nations. But we don’t do that now for obvious reasons. Countries trade with each other, they form alliances, trading blocs.

This means that every country on this earth has to give a tiny bit of its sovereignty so that it can function harmonously with other nations. This also means that Leave lied to us when they said we would have complete control of what we do in the future.

Remember when the Government White Paper confirmed that the UK has always been sovereign?

The perfect con

Does Brexit gives you and me and the UK sovereignty? No, it does not! Brexit removes our personal sovereignty and worse, in the long term, it will reduce our sovereignty. How will it do that? Recession, lower food standards, loss of employment rights, a right-wing government that does not want due process and is all about controlling the people. Our quality of life will be reduced under Brexit.

I got conned by the rich elites into voting for Brexit.

Now, I want to take back control! I want to remain in the EU!🔷
