This is truly shocking: A school wrongly advised parents that EU citizen pupils have to have Settled Status by 31 October 2019.

@NeilPollyTicks posted a letter on Twitter they received from their school:

The letter in full.

This is completely wrong! The anxiety this letter will have caused!

The actual Settled Status deadlines are 30 June 2021 in case of a deal or 31 December 2020 in case of no deal.

Apply to the EU Settlement Scheme (settled and pre-settled status) / Gov.uk

We need to be clear that Boris Johnson and his shambolic Government are responsible for this.

This may well have been triggered by Michael Gove’s #GetReadyForBrexit campaign. As I noted when the checker for how to ‘get ready’ went live, the guidance is confusing on dates.

And then, there is this as well:

Get ready for Brexit / Gov.uk

Another factor may have been Priti Patel’s plan – now abandonedto end Freedom of Movement immediately after Brexit. That caused a lot of confusion. But instead of clearing all of that up properly, the Home Office currently seems to spend its days monitoring the tweets and writings of citizens’ rights groups and academics, and producing spin. The latter is intended to establish the narrative that all is fine with Settled Status. As the above example shows, nothing is fine. This Government and the Home Office need to take ownership.

And so does Boris Johnson, directly. He clearly, as he demonstrated in his first PMQs yesterday, has no clue whatsoever about how Settled Status works: there is basically nothing automatic about it.

Ministers like Andrea Leadsom are also actively adding to the confusion because they too provide, at best, misleading information.

Reckless policies and shambolic approaches have consequences. For real people.

This is not abstract anymore. The Settled Status system is not working.

The guidance is not clear. There is confusion and misinformation everywhere.

Discrimination is happening already.

That is how to create a Windrush generation. On steroids.

And because the Government is choosing not to stop that, choosing to keep this flawed system in place, it is clear that that – a Windrush on steroids – is something they have no problem with.🔷
