the3million is launching the ‘This is our home UK tour’ to discuss citizens’ rights and share experiences.
First published in March 2020.
Yesterday, I celebrated my 50th birthday and it was a time for reflection.
When I organised that very first meeting in Bristol in July 2016, little did I know I would be running the main organisation of EU citizens in the UK nearly 4 years later, and I couldn’t have done it without you.
I am very honoured to have this responsibility and I want to thank you all for your support since the referendum as I couldn’t have done it without you.
Today is special too. For the last two months, I have been working on an outreach project with the team and I am delighted to announce that we are going on the road next week to meet EU citizens across the four nations of the United Kingdom.
From Bristol to Cardiff, Belfast, Edinburgh, Fort William, Newcastle, Liverpool, Birmingham, and Southampton, we want to meet as many of you as possible, so we can discuss your issues and understand how best we can support you locally.
In each of the places above, we will organise a group picture in an iconic location, holding the letters “T H I S I S O U R H O M E” to send a message of love to our communities. Later on that day, we are also organising a public event or a Eurocafé so we can have a proper discussion about our rights, and how Brexit is affecting our lives. It will be a great opportunity to share our experiences.
To join us, please click on the links below and register to attend:
◦ Monday 9 March
◦ Tuesday 10 March

While we are organising these dates ourselves, we realise many places are missing, but there are very few of us. This is why we are inviting you to do your own THIS IS OUR HOME event in your city or town to engage with fellow EU citizens in your community.
To do so, please fill this form, and we will come back to you shortly.
In other news, Ilse Mogensen and I met with Joâo Vale de Almeida, the new EU ambassador to the UK last week.
Ambassador Joâo Vale de Almeida, Ilse Mogensen and Nicolas Hatton. / the3million
The ambassador told us he would be attentive to our concerns and asked that we share with you his commitment to the protection of our citizens’ rights.
Well, it didn’t take long as you can see in this article in the Guardian.
Also, last week, the government finally published the ICIBI’s second report on the EU Settlement Scheme. Our research associate, Kuba Jablonowski, wrote a blog for FreeMovement, in which he highlights the scheme’s disguised refusals and a lack of equality monitoring. Worryingly, the report contains data which we had requested last autumn in a Freedom of Information request, which was then refused.
Finally, we have TWO CALLS TO ACTION this week:
1. Please write to your MP, asking them to support the early day motion tabled by Labour MP Kate Green so our rights under the Withdrawal Agreement apply to all EU citizens living in the UK, not just those who have applied to the Settled Status scheme.
- For more information on why this is vital for so many EU citizens, please check our infopage at: www.the3million.org.uk/automatic-rights
- Details about the early day motion: https://edm.parliament.uk/early-day-motion/54603/eu-settlement-scheme
- Write to your MP: www.writetothem.com
2. Have you been asked to provide proof of your status under the EU settlement scheme (EUSS)? If so, we invite you to participate in the Public Law Project survey on Settled Status checks, and the impacts of having a digital-only status – Find the survey here.
Many organisations are asking you to donate money for EU citizens but if you do, please choose the3million. Since 2016, they have been the leading organisation of EU citizens in the UK and no-one is better placed to continue to fight for their rights and against discrimination.
If you can help their campaign to continue, you can:
