While you clap for carers every Thursday, the government is planning to sell the NHS to Trump’s America. Here is a heartfelt opinion piece by former nurse Danielle Yorks about what is really happening on the Covid-19 front line: NHS staff are still working without proper PPE!

Matt Hancock, you will not like my tone, and I don’t care.

I have spoken to a few nursing friends today and I want to tell you the following. They have asked me to share, so share I will.

It is well known in the NHS that nurses in unclean areas (non-COVID wards) are the ones dying. This is because they do not have access to the required PPE.

Nurses are being threatened with disciplinaries for refusing to treat patients without the required PPE. Suspected COVID patients are being nursed without PPE until positive due to shortages.

Nurses on wards with COVID-positive patients but not on continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines or on high flow oxygen are being denied FFP3 masks because of the lack of aerosol in the air.

“You wouldn’t send a firefighter into a fire without oxygen.”

The viral load will still be there due to coughing, etc. They are nursing with surgical masks. No goggles. No gowns.

One friend is on a COVID ward wearing boiler suits, donated by a local company that deals with asbestos, because they have run out of gowns.

Another friend told me “You wouldn’t send a firefighter into a fire without oxygen.” That is what you are being asked to do. Death in service shouldn’t be a thing for nurses.

This government is killing our nurses. They are lying to you. The one thing you cannot f*ck with is the NHS.

Do not just clap.

Never vote for these monsters again.🔷
