A great thread by Mr MT on the reason why the brightest and the best will certainly not want to come to Britain after the Immigration Bill becomes law.

First published in May 2020.

The U.K. used to be a country that exported its talent around the world.

This Tory government of amateurs and incompetents is the first in our history to put a stop to that. That is what happened today.

The “super-forecasters” at Number 10 think the world will now choose to come here; a dreary and economically bereft little island which celebrates its decision to destroy itself and its economy with ever more feeble displays of xenophobic, faux-militaristic jingoism and tat.

Our remote overlords in Westminster are drunk on the euphoria of casting the UK adrift from its friends, and seek solace in the arms of the genuinely crazy US administration.

An 80 seat majority has enabled the very worst failings of our system of government to override all sense.

The losers today are the young, and the government has now constrained them to a life without new experiences, without free movement, and without all the opportunity that was available to millions before the tawdry Tories stole it away to appease their band of little Englanders.

My heart breaks, again, for all my British friends in Europe, my European friends here, and for a generation that will grow up with diminishing horizons. The blame for this disaster can fall on many people but Boris Johnson and his cabal of fakes and no-hopers are top of the list.

Roll up, roll up.

Welcome everyone.
