The inauguration of the United States’ 46th president is fast approaching. President-elect Joe Biden has been working hard building up his future administration.

CNN reported on Tuesday that President-elect Joe Biden is calling upon Connecticut education commissioner Miguel Cardona to be his secretary of education. A formal announcement is expected as yearly as Wednesday.

Last week, Biden had announced former rival Pete Buttigieg as secretary of transportation. Biden also named former EPA administrator Gina McCarthy to the newly created position of Domestic Climate Chief, while picking former Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm as secretary of energy, native American Rep. Deb Haaland (D-NM) as secretary of the interior and Michael Regan as EPA administrator.

Just with this last bout of nominations, Biden has named three women, one Latino and one African-American to cabinet-level positions while also aiming to have the first openly gay person and the first Native American as cabinet secretaries.

Biden has openly said that he wants to create a cabinet that resembles the United States population, but at least as far as secretary positions go, only four of 12 nominees and expected nominees have been women.🔷
