Often, when bad things happen, we want to believe that this is an isolated error that can be easily rectified. More often, though, this error is systemic: the outcome of a system structured to do exactly this – like the UK school meal fiasco.

The National Education Union is asking people to support and sign an open letter to the Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson, calling upon him to eradicate holiday hunger by providing Free School Meals to all children who need them over the school holidays.
Whether the government likes it or not, the evidence is clear: children not eating a healthy diet will not perform as well at school as those who are well nourished. If children are not given the nutrition they need, there are long-term effects on their health.
Who are these selfish, heartless MPs who voted against extending free school meals for the poorest children in the UK in the middle of a pandemic in 2020?
I am disgusted with every single MP who voted to let children go hungry.
